Juror: Larry Meeker
Larry is one of the most prolific art collectors in Kansas City. He not only collects art but also is a long-time advocate for the arts and artists by promoting through numerous non-profit and city arts programs. He is well known amongst many curators, artists and gallerists.
Currently he chairs three arts organizations: Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission, the Johnson County Public Art Commission (which administers the county’s one percent for art program), and the Johnson County Museum Foundation Board.
He was a member of the Citizens Visioning Committee that created a 2030 vision for Johnson County, Kansas. He served as President of the Arts Council of Johnson County, which, under his leadership, led a “Suburban Arts Initiative” that linked the arts with economic development. His leadership also produced an arts business plan for the county and a one a percent for art law for new county buildings. He also served as President of the Kansas City Jewish Museum Foundation Board and President of the Society for Contemporary Photography.
The Larry and Cindy Meeker Collection is a compilation of art works that include an extensive portfolio of photographic prints collected by them for over 40 years. A small portion of this collection was on view and on loan at the Epsten Gallery in 2003, as well as, the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington D.C. Currently two of the works he’s collected are on view in the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
